Two Truths and A Lie

Have you ever played the game Two Truths and A Lie?  You try to trick people by telling them 3 things about yourself, two things that are actually true and one thing that is a lie.  Then people try to guess which of the 3 things is a lie.  The object is to learn something about each other and to be creative in your answer.

Ms. Davis's Two Truths and A Lie: I have friends living on 6 different continents.  I worked at the Mesquite Rodeo when I was 14.  I ran with the bulls when I was in Spain in 2009.  ***Which one of these do you think is the lie? (You have to come to class to find out the correct answer.)***

INSTRUCTIONS: Open a new tab, log into Blogger, and click New Post. Title the post Two Truths and a Lie.  Write two things that are true about you and one thing that is a lie.  Try to make them tricky... let's see who can fool the teacher on this one. When you are finished, click Publish Post, and you're done!

Three Good Things

"If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting." - Katherine Hepburn

Most of us do have to support ourselves, but many people do not find their work to be enjoyable or interesting.  However, those who do enjoy the work they do can hardly call it 'work'.  The easiest way to a job you enjoy is not to find a career and try to make it enjoyable, it is to find what makes you happy and then figure out how you can make money doing it.

INSTRUCTIONS: Open a new tab, log into Blogger, and click New Post.  List 3 good things about yourself.  These can be personality traits (such as being outgoing or intelligent), physical attributes (such as being strong or having pretty feet), or things you do well (such as building things or typing quickly).  What careers do these things point you toward?  Now think about what career you dream of having.  Are these two career paths related?  Think how you could combine your strengths and your dreams.  Your blog title will be Three Good Things.  When you are finished, click Publish Post, and you're done!

Ms. Davis's Answer: I am very organized.  I am outgoing and I like to talk to people.  I have a lot of experience with computers.  A career that would be good for me is teaching.  My dream career is to be a rock star, but that does not align with my talents, so teaching is a great fit for me. :)

Our Class Website

There are many useful things here on our class website. You should check the website often to see what new things Ms. Davis has added.  Here are some examples, but there is plenty more for you to explore, so go for it.

Some useful information (These categories are found on the top right side of the blog under Labels):

Words to the Wise - this is where Ms. Davis will post little grammar reminders and helpful hints, often with a link to a website where you can find even more information.  Sometimes we will go over these in class, but not always, so be on the lookout.

Secrets to Success - this is where Ms. Davis will post information that will help you be successful in class, such as procedures for saving your work, spelling tips, and Blogger tips.  We will not always go over these in class, so check them out periodically to see if there is anything new that you can use.

TAKS WODs - each day's TAKS word will be listed here if you are looking for some extra credit or just to strengthen your vocabulary.

BIM 1 / BFS - you are either in Ms. Davis's Business Information Management class (abbreviated BIM1) or her Banking and Financial Services (abbreviated BFS).  Or you might even be in both.  This is where you can go for information specific to your class, such as assignments, the syllabus, or a schedule for the class.

INSTRUCTIONS:  Take a few minutes and look around the class website.  Then open a new tab, log into Blogger, and click New Post.  Tell me 3 things you found on our website that you did not know before and how these 3 things will help you in the future, either in class or in life.  Your blog title will be Our Class Website.  When you are finished, click Publish Post, and you're done!

Planning My Route

Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success.
David J. Schwartz

The first step towards getting the things you want is to decide what it is you want and visualize yourself having it. Set goals, and then imagine yourself achieving them. Think of the joy you will feel when you reach your goal, and you will feel even more driven to success.

A. Think about 3 goals you have for this school year. (For Example: Do you want to make all A’s? Do you want to get the starring role in choir or in a play? Do you want to play first string in your sport? Do you want to make a new friend or find a significant other?) List 3 goals you would like to accomplish by the end of the school year.

B. Then think about 3 goals you have for your life. (For Example: Would you like to have a certain career? Would you like to get married and have children? When? Would you like to own your own business? Would you like to go to college? Get your Masters degree? Get your PhD?!)  List 3 goals you hope to accomplish in this lifetime.
